Order of the Stick - Book 6 Discussion Thread

Maybe they’ll send for Elan and Banjo.

Yep. Darkwing is a duck.

Apparently Rich is tired of the strip and will just end it at 1,000. :stuck_out_tongue:

That would make me Snarl.

Yes: panel 2, #993. 993 Moots and Ladders - Giant in the Playground Games
On familiars, I always thought rolling up a toad would be awkward. He can’t just hop along, and riding on the magic user’s shoulder stretches credibility.

The art upgrade is really being put to use now.

I quite like the art upgrade. IIRC, Rich first experimented with the art upgrade in Snips, Snails and Dragon Tails, during the Julio story.

The before mentioned Dragon article talked about how having a toad familiar was practically a curse. They’re hard to transport, useless in combat even as a distraction, prone to fungal infections, can be difficult to feed, require a consistent climate, etc. Their only beneficial ability is to grant wide-angle vision which is a heck of a lot less useful than cats seeing in the dark or crows seeing from overhead.

This was back in 1st edition when your familiar was just an animal so your toad had one hit point and, if it died, you permanently lost 1-4hp and had to take a System Shock roll to avoid permanent death.

Nice DM’s shouldn’t let players roll toads. I don’t know if it’s so bad these days with familiars being quasi-arcane beings and much more durable.

I could see them being used as familiars for NPC spellcasters (i.e. witches). NPC’s don’t have the wanderlust that players do.

Hey, if we didn’t have toad familiars, we’d never have had Ralph!

3rd edition (what this comic is based on) familiars were pretty durable, with half of their master’s HP. In 5th, though, they’re back to 1 HP. On the other hand, though, the only consequence now to losing one is that you have to spend 10 GP on the ritual to get it back.

The Stick has updated episode 1000!

Git!

In case any Mod happens by, obviously that’s dialect for “git along wid yer!”

You’d think I’d at least mouse over the link before clicking it…

Not cool. Really, not.

Oh, c’mon. Stickroll? In an Order of the Stick thread? That was pretty good.

I actually googled “stickroll” hoping for something useful to link to and was pleasantly surprised when this showed up. More so because it only had 7 views when I found it. We just septupled the count.

I figured it was a rickroll from the reaction posts. When I found it was STICKROLL, I laughed.

Just me, then.

No, I thought it was kinda mean too.

I was less bothered by the lame joke than I am about constantly clicking this thread, hoping for an update, and seeing it’s just discussion of the lame joke
