Can we take a moment to go back to 1000 and appreciate the perspective of the hall? I’ve got the wallpaperup (thank you, Peter Morris) and it’s pretty impressive to see the creative effort that went in to the design ad rendering of the space.
The purple squiggle on the forehead of Mr. “this seems like an internal dispute”…
I thought only those of a specific bloodline had that?
Compare #841 and #999, the splotches are in a differnt place and a different shape.
Ok, thanks. In the priest’s case, it is starting to look more like a tattoo to me, now. Is that wrong?
After a bunch of Roy hitting Durkon and Durkon repairing the damage, V will spot Belkar falling and save him via Fly or Feather Fall. Then Fly him back up where Belkar will, with the benefit of an Owl’s Wisdom, use a Heal scroll from Durkon’s scroll stash to weaken him for a killing blow from Roy before Durkon can repair himself.
Guaranteed! ![]()
Would Belkar get killed by the temple staff for helping Roy?
No, Belkar is also Durkon’s bodyguard.
Durkon never got himself a coffin. So, when he gets down to zero hit points, is he dead-dead?
Might even go crazy and move him to chaotic good. It would be one hell of a switch from ‘worse than offspring of Cruella deVille and Sauron’ to making the ultimate sacrifice for the ultimate return.
Ooo. More fun. Belkar won’t live to see the new year, right?
The Godsmoot is happening two days after the Winter Solstice. So call it the 21st of December. So it’s now the 23th and Belkar has - at most - 8 days to live. Which might be 8 seconds when last we saw him.
I’m sure there’s a way to handwave it, if it hasn’t already been addressed, but just how many hours of daylight are there in a Northern clime during the Winter Solstice? HPoH might not need that Pro. Daylight spell very much after all…
I forgot that Durkon was allowed two. :smack:
Well, the meeting was at noon and, from the point people started speaking until now, it couldn’t have been more than 15 minutes or so. Hell, call it an hour and you probably still safely have a couple hours before sunset. I can’t see the fight between Roy and Durkon lasting three hours.
Plus, they’re on the highest mountain peak so I’d imagine they’ll see the sun for longer than if they were in a valley.
That assumes they are using the same calendar we are. No indication that their year begins on Jan 1st, or even if they have a month called January. They said Belkar has seven weeks to live, and that was about 4 1/2 weeks ago, comic time.
Who’s they? Was that an upper limit, or a prediction? Because if a prediction, then I guess we should expect Belkar to show up and whomp on Durkon any panel, now.
It’s happening ON the winter solstice. Move two strips forward from your link. Roy says it’s “a secret cleric meet-up tomorrow” in panel 4. In 987 Veldrina complains about the three-day notice, and says Solstice is tomorrow, but that suggests she found out about the Godsmoot two days prior.
So, an upper limit.
I had a thought about Belkar’s demise last night while I was preparing dinner: He’s going to return and dust Durkula, whereupon he will immediately be put to death by the Godsmoot atendees who do not realize that he’s a bodyguard like Roy. His remains will suffer the same fate as did Nale’s. Despite having known that Belkar was doomed, Roy will deeply regret not having been able to prevent the scattering of Belkar’s corpse-molecules.
It will be very sad.
Thog gave Roy the nickname of talky-man. Durkevil noted in 1001 that Roy, “Likes talking so much.” But actually Roy isn’t especially gregarious. It’s just that when he banters in fighting situations the topic is usually moral judgment or ethics. And evil characters just tune that out. To them it is just talk.
I’m guessing Elan jabbers more than Roy. But it won’t seem that way to an evil character.
