I’m assuming everyone knows the metaphor for Death he’s referencing. She certainly doesn’t ask for clarification.
Did Malack carry a scythe?
Just a staff, I believe.
It’s quite a bit, but if you were reading this in book form (instead of a page every 3-21 days) it probably wouldn’t bother you.
It doesn’t bother me. I was just using the length of the arc as evidence it’s going to be important later.
“Do you really think we can end this whole thing - beat Xykon and the goblins in just seven weeks?”
“No, it’s probably going to take at least fifteen years.”
But on a more serious note, re-reading that strip I see that the panel where Roy says Belkar will die soon is inset in a scene where O-Chul is threatening to kill Belkar. Is that juxtaposition foreshadowing?
Quick poll:
Do you think the Monster in the Dark is:
- Something consistent with all of the clues, but will have no real storyline/WOW factor for non-DnD nerds
- Something with storyline/WOW factor but will be wildly off on game mechanics
- Threading the needle: both the storyline/WOW factor whilst remaining consistent with all the clues
- Neither: the mechaninces will be wrong and the reveal will not have a WOW factor
My theory is that the MitD is one of the Eastern pantheon gods. My guess is Hephaestus.
I don’t know how that works in with D&D mechanics.
Same, but I’m pretty sure he’ll have to fudge the game mechanics.
The Greeks are Eastern?
What is this “Greece” of which you speak? /Miko
Yes, the Graeco-Roman inspired gods are the Eastern Pantheon; the Babylonian inspired gods are the Western; the Norse are the Northern, and the 12 gods of Azure City are the Southern.
The Southern pantheon is based on Chinese astrology.
I know?
I didn’t mean to imply you did not. But you identified what historical culture was the source for the other three pantheons and I wanted to add in the fourth.
I think it will be consistent with all the clues, but the Wow factor won’t match the Dragon vs Dinosaur fight. It will be Wow enough for me, and a nice demonstration of Rich’s improved drawing skills. I’m not sure how broad its appeal will be.
I don’t know for sure what Monster-San is, but I will resolutely and absolutely hang my hat on this: He doesn’t originate in any D&D sourcebook. He’s probably had D&D stats published at some point, because everything has had D&D stats published at some point, but that’s not where he originated.
It’s BARNEY!!
Pfft, you SAY it’s not in D&D but obviously YOU never read 1975’s Strategic Review Vol. 1 Issue…
I assume it will be consistent with the clues but am skeptical of any WOW factor after this many years of build-up. No slight intended, just an assumed reality given the years of speculation and everything under the sun having been guessed at by now.
