Is that a waiting room or Sabine’s apartment?
It does kind of look like a bed, but I don’t think that’s a cage - it’s scaffolding. And everyone climbing the ladder is carrying a big yellow block of some sort.
I was thinking the same thing but I don’t know where from.
Also the iron boots, stamping on people’s faces (and also the rest of them), presumably forever.
Sabine’s wall art of the 9 Hells, Gehenna, and the Abyss is cool.
Also, not to make anyone feel old, but do y’all realise it’s been 12 years since we last saw Nale?
I didn’t want to raise false expectations by reviving the thread before there was a new strip so I waited to post this.
I noticed a detail about 1315 I missed at first. When O-Chul says his lines about facing the unforeseen consequences of a decision, the scene cuts to Blackwing and Vaarsuvius, who have the punchline.
But the detail I had missed is that at the same time, Belkar turns and looks at Mr Scruffy. This seems intentional; all of the other characters are looking forward in the direction they are walking and Belkar was doing the same before O-Chul spoke. So it appears Belkar looks at Mr Scruffy in reaction to what O-Chul says.
If so, I’m missing the context. What would be the decision that led to an unforeseen consequence between Belkar and Mr Scruffy?
As others have said, Nale probably was saved from more direct torture by Sabine intervening on his behalf. But that said, this probably is a severe form of torture for Nale. He’s an active schemer whose main priority has always been to be in control of events. And now he’s being forced to just sit there with nothing he can do to affect what’s happening. And that’s given him time to realize he wasted his time while he was alive. Physical suffering would have distracted him from this mental suffering.
Good catch, but I don’t think that’s Sabine’s wall art. Sabine is a succubus, and therefore a native of the Abyss, not the Nine Hells. And based on her dialogue when she enters, she’s not familiar with the place they’re staying at. It’s not her apartment, it’s a place she and Nale were set up in by the Inter-Fiend Cooperation Commission, hence the wall art showing the layout out the three major evil planes.
Which suggests that it was the IFCC that spared Nale from torture, not Sabine specifically, and that whatever the IFCC’s plan is, it involves Nale in some capacity.
He’s also not really having a moral revelation. He doesn’t think he should have been nicer to Elan because he feels bad about being cruel to him, he thinks he should have been nicer to him because it would have made his plan to kill their father more successful. He’s still a shit, just a more canny shit.
But Sabine works under Director Lee, doesn’t she? That implies she’s lawful evil? Are we sure she isn’t an Erinye?
In the very same speech bubble where she’s revealed to work under Director Lee!
I guess they really put their money where their mouth is when it comes to interfiend cooperation.
She’s also never really been all that Chaotic, and Nale has never really been all that Lawful.
Was it ever established for sure that the fiends had the alignments appropriate to their names?
Wow, that long.
And through all that time I never stopped expecting his return.
You think that’s something - the prophesy that Belkar would die “before the end of the year” was made in 2008.

The word steampunk dates back to the 80s.
