Order of the Stick book 7 discussion thread

My guess is that by the end of book 7 Redcloak will be actively helping the Order, whilst TDO will be actively hindering, with Redcloak abandoning TDO being a major turning point strip. No idea how it’ll happen, just a gut feeling.

I also think they’re going to need to find a 5 quiddity solution, and green will make an appearance somehow.

I don’t see how that could happen. Clerics get their spells directly from their gods. If a cleric turns against his god, he gets no more spells. Without spells, Redcloak is useless.

As I say, just a gut feeling. There’s precedent though: Greg turned away from Thor, and got his spells from Hel. He still had access to all Durkon’s spell levels. Redcloak could then theoretically abandon TDO and become a divine conduit of some non-asshole evil god, as long as both parties profit by the arrangement?

but we need the cooperation of the dark one to save the world.

I think Durkon needs to find a way to get the dark one to talk to redcloak.

That’s “Plan A”. I don’t think Plan A will happen.

If you’ve read @Alessan’s theory on the MITD, it might already have the green quiddity.

Too bad, an Astral traveler needs that enchantment from Thor to see the Graveyards of Worlds Past. One Plane Shift could lend a lot of veracity to what Durkon’s trying to sell.

I am completely sold on Alessan’s story, fwiw. But there are some weird points. Like… what does Xykon know about it, and how did Xykon get control of mitd?

I wonder if they get Redcloak to finally meet his god by killing him.

Why not do what we used to do:

Durkon didn’t turn from Thor though, he had his soul captured and replaced with an evil vampire cleric spirit intentionally sent from Hel with the designed purpose of being her high priest. I don’t think that says a lot about when clerics intentionally decide to switch deities (which, in game, is usually left to the DM though you might lose levels or losing your casting until you prove yourself, etc)

NEW POST (I don’t know how to make the link large)

1208: Grievances

Also… I used to be able to find this thread by looking in “all the threads I’ve subscribed to”. I didn’t have to remember what the topic happened to be called, and search for it. Is there a way to do that in this software?

My guess? Durkon and Redcloak will reach a deal, but either Xykon will throw a wrench in the proceedings, or the Dark One will reject it. Probably both.

I’m finding it in “Unread”. That seems to hold threads that I’ve looked at that have new posts.

Not as good as “Subscribed” or “Participated” used to be …

My guess is that Xykon will intervene before the discussion between Durkon and Redcloak is finished. Durkon will be held as a captive to use against the rest of the group. Minrah will report this to the group.

Xykon will obviously be suspicious of Redcloak but he’s generally suspicious of him anyway. He’ll allow Redcloak to remain nominally free while keeping an even closer watch on him. This will give Redcloak time to think about what Durkon said and decide what his best course is.

These events will give Burlew the benefit of allowing the most dramatic tension and opportunities for story development.

That works if someone else updated the thread. It doesn’t work for 'hey, I see there’s a new strip, and I’d like to post that, even though the thread hasn’t been updated for many days since I last read it."

I like your guesses.

You really think Xykon will overlook Redcloak lying to him and cutting deals behind his back? Does he seem the forgiving type to you? Remember, their relationship is based on a lie - Xykon thinks that the Plan will help him, and not the Dark One. If he learns otherwise, say, by listening to the conversation they’re having right now, then why would he have any reason to keep Redcloak alive?

I feel Xykon has always expected Redcloak will try to betray him. He just feels Redcloak will fail in his attempt.

And Xykon’s right; Redcloak always has planned on betraying Xykon. Neither one of them trusts the other or has any reason to.

Xykon keeps Redcloak around because he’s useful. He needs Redcloak for half of the spell. Just as Redcloak needs Xykon for half of the spell.
