Order of the Stick book 7 discussion thread

Man, that’s a whole lot of amnesia potion. I hope they don’t each need to drink three gallons of the stuff.

Does the cloak sort of feel like a cheat to anyone else? I joked earlier about one short character standing on another short character’s shoulders but that at least would justify wearing a full length cloak.

Serini (assuming it is in fact here) is a short character wearing a full length cloak while standing on a stepladder. Why? Any real person would wear a cloak appropriate to their height. It seems like the only reason why Serini was wearing that cloak is so Burlew could hide the stepladder in the previous strip.

I respect Burlew because he doesn’t normally resort to tricks like that. So I’m hoping there’s another explanation in the next strip.

I dig the fact that her cyborg foot is hairy, the way a halfling’s foot is s’posed to be.

I don’t think she’s a cyborg, I think she’s half plant now.

My guess is she’s either half golem or half whatever species Grubwiggler is. The spotted complexion certainly looks an awful lot like Grubs’. I’m not 100% sure what Grubwiggler is, but I think a frog-person. Does D&D have a frog race?

So when O-Chul and Lien were captured, there were two invisible creatures conversing in the final panels. Was that Serini conversing with herself?

It looks like two different beings are carrying the paladins after they’ve been captured:
#1189 (last panel). At any rate, a single halfling couldn’t carry them like that. The bodies are too far apart.

I think we’ve been through this. Green voice says “grab them”, but we only see one orange bubble. So it’s ambiguous as to whether it’s one really big thing grabbing them, or two minions (and I think you mean second-last panel)

Several, such as Bullywugs and Grippli but they look more froggy than that. I’d expect them to look more like Burlew’s slaad.

Why catch them if she just wants to let them go, thinking they haven’t found anything? Why not just avoid them in the first place?

I’m guessing the amnesia effect is going to go back far enough that they won’t remember ever finding the dungeon complex that hides the gate, and not just get captured by Serini.

That seems somewhat pointless to me, since Xykon is already there. Even she’s confident that Xykon would never think to disarm the trap, surely the fact that there are people spying on Xykon suggests there will be others coming to fight him. Otherwise, as paladins, they’d go in and fight him directly, even if he killed them.

It’s also taking her away from watching to see if anyone else shows up.

We don’t know what her agenda is. If, in fact, she is working with the Snarl, maybe she wants Xykon to find the gate.

I think we can safely assume that her agenda is the same as the other Scribblers. To protect her gate.

Working with Snarl? The Snarl needs allies about as much as god needs a starship.

She does have at least one minion…

I think the stepladder and cloak is in case of incidental discovery: Even if anyone does manage to see her without getting dosed, they’ll think they saw a medium-sized creature, not a halfling. She’s confident that she’ll be able to dose the paladins, though, so she’s not worried about revealing herself.

And nothing she’s said indicates that she knows that Xykon is here, now: She’s familiar with him from long enough ago that she’s been able to replace her lost limbs (presumably when he stole her diary). But on the other hand, she’s obviously watching the valley, and Team Evil hasn’t exactly been subtle, so it’s hard to know how she could be ignorant of them being present.

She knows about Xykon. In 1189 she says to Lien: “Which I think right now is to not make so much noise that a certain lich hears you.”

I like her.

So Serini just trolled the Paladins.
