Or he could swallow Redcloak whole, and then spit him out whole, including the amulet that’s still around his neck.

RC is still wearing an amulet, but it’s his backup holy symbol and not the phylactery.

But not that gold amulet. Point being, you could go in multiple directions to Monkey’s Paw the command.

1235 Idle Thoughts

Talky thinky man talk think too much.

I’m getting super bored with dialog strips. Blah blah blah.

I’m assuming this is a deliberate representation of a long wait in order to build up the tension for when something exciting happens.

Or it’s just filler.

I, for one, am absolutely disgusted at the implication that a bard like Elan with his considerable Charisma score and class/skill modifiers could fail to Persuade anyone to talk to him. I will be running the math to show how improbable this is statistically and posting the results to my blog.

Don’t worry. This page is obviously a segue - giving us some humor and reminding us where all the character are. The next one will have action.

I think the previous stuff was important setup. But I agree this one is boring. Usually the filler stuff is at least humorous, but the joke here just doesn’t work for me. Elan thinks to himself all the time, coming up with elaborate plans. And only two people said they didn’t want to talk.

I, too, think this isn’t a great strip, but it’s purpose is to make it feel like they are waiting.

I mean, this is 1235 and 1230 was also a filler Elan strip.

I enjoyed the strip. In Stickworld precious few humans care about the plight of the Goblins and much like realworld most don’t have the temperament to open themselves up to practical moral philosophy. Just the way it is. Sure Belkar is a homicidal sociopath, but his perspective in this strip isn’t very far from typical.

Elan is clearly an extrovert who gets his energy from interacting with other people, to the point that he has difficulty imaging those like V who get their energy from being alone. Learn to filter Elan!

It didn’t work for me because Elan chose Belkar as the first person he tried to talk to. He would have chosen Haley first. After she told him she couldn’t have talked, he would have tried Belkar, Minrah, and Vaarsuvius in that order.

When Serini pops out next strip and amnesias most of the group except Elan because she realizes he’s a dope with no long term memory, which OOTS member should Elan cast Song of Freedumb on to give them their memory back first?

Of course Elan used Roy’s sword to peel potatoes.

Elan is self-aware enough to know he isn’t good at making those kind of decisions. So he would revive Roy first so Roy could tell him what to do.

I feel like this is preparing for belkar’s death.

It does remind me of the preparations for the assault on the vampire dwarves (strips 1106-1116).

For dramatic reasons, if nothing else, it seems that whenever the gang are most prepared to take on powerful foes things usually go horribly wrong, whereas where they’re caught off guard (e.g. the battle with Tarquin’s army in the desert) they improvise well. By that metric, something is going to go horribly wrong shortly (and may well involve Serini).

ETA: Honestly, at this point in the narrative I’d be shocked if something actually went according to the original plan.

They discussed their plan out loud. Elan should have told them that’s a surefire way to make sure nothing will go according to that plan. Compare to the last time they set up an ambush (of the Linear Guild in the pyramid) and they didn’t discuss them, or at least not in the hearing of the audience. Things went swimmingly.

So if Serini doesn’t show up before Xylon and RC, it’ll be a real surprise. Or maybe they’ll show up at the same time. That would be real fun.

When they fought Vampire Durkon, they didn’t discuss the plans for us to read and things went great… until they didn’t.
