Order of the Stick book 7 discussion thread

And the Monster doesn’t seem to have an evil aura at all.

The MiD is sounding smarter. The others are not commenting on it.

O-Chul described Monster-San as “a good man”. I find it implausible that he would have never used his at-will Detect Evil ability in Monster-San’s presence (especially early on, when he had no clue what was going on and couldn’t do anything else), so I think it’s pretty definitive that Monster-San is not evil, not a fiend, and not undead.

I’m guessing the summoned creature is a Quinton from the plane of Mechanus.

Hmm, i wonder where this is heading

Quarton, actually. No diamond on its forehead and no prehensile tale.

And it’ll always be Nirvana to me.

Quartons have four arms. This creature has five, and one of them could be a tail. At least it doesn’t seem to be attached to the shoulder.

Mike Wazowski!

Not to burst the bubble of any old guard loremasters but it looks like the Monodrones from more modern editions.

Modrons were definitely done dirty by 3e onwards, I get that they were very silly but that was part of the charm

Eta: ignore me, you guys are discussing the big dude.

You are correct. I miscounted.

Mind you, the Giant has drawn the odd extra arm on occasion, so it’s not entirely without precedent. 11 Alignment Differences - Giant in the Playground Games

To be fair, that was a very long time ago, and his art has gotten more detailed since, so a mistake like that would be harder to make.

Also this may be an intentional hint:

  1. in her cryptogram stage Haley says she “isn’t exactly what you’d call…” before being interrupted. Maybe she meant “human” because in fact she is some kind of three armed humanoid.

  2. this would also explain how she can shoot her bow so quickly.

Based on a post over at the OotS forum, Modrons are apparently IP. So to avoid infringing on that, this creature is neither Quarton nor Quinton. It has five arms, not four arms and a prehensile tail. Also the hands are the usual OotS three finger jobs and not the five fingers that Quintons have. I would expect Quartons to have four finger hands, although the description doesn’t say.

Another difference: the Modrons have multiple jointed arms, and this guy has only one joint per arm. Although considering that other OotS characters don’t have any joints in their arms, even having one may count as multiple by that standard.

I always thought she was going to say, “straight”. I can’t remember where, but I think it was explicitly stated somewhere, maybe in one of the books, that Haley is bi or pan.

Neither bi nor pan people have 3 arms, so that theory doesn’t work

:stuck_out_tongue: (and more for Discord)

It’s been stated several times that Haley is bi.

One of the cryptograms in the same strip reads in translation “I kissed a girl once. OK, OK, more than once!”

So the incomplete secret is something different from being bi.

Oh, right. Okay. Then yeah, :man_shrugging:
