I dunno… if that gun was going to be fired, I think it would have been mentioned in the regular comic and not just in Start of Darkness. Randall is too smart to have a twist that will leave two-thirds of his readers scratching their heads
I’ve thought of that, too. But then why include the compulsion in the first place?
The usual way to do it would be to have something that works just fine in the main story, but also functions as a callback for those in the know. But I admit I’m not sure how that could be accomplished in this case.
AIUI, the compulsion has to be renewed from time to time or it expires. So he could show Xykon doing that renewal at some point.
A hilarious twist would have Redcloak betraying Xykon, the Xykon calling in the geas, and MitD not reacting.
We have no proof that it ever worked in the first place - sure, the MitD’s eyes swirled, but maybe he was just doing what was expected of him.
And then the next panel, they stopped swirling. Everyone else we’ve seen get mind-whammied, the swirling eyes persisted for as long as the mind-whammy.
Reminiscent of:
Buffy: What are you doing here, Spike. Five words or less.
Spike: Out. For. A. Walk. … Bitch.
Funnier if Xykon doesn’t cotton though.
And more chance for drama.
Did the MitD just call the biggest, baddest Big Bad in the Universe “dude?”
For once, the OOTS have the surveillance upper hand.
I got “CODER” from those letters
Isn’t mitd being awfully obvious?
Do you expect any better from the MITD? XD
No, he was talking to Xykon.
New one: NO SKILL POINT
Cool. They’re following a rule I just learned about: Shoot your Monks. A good DM will deliberately play up to their character’s strengths. If someone goes to the trouble to add that skill, then it feels awesome to let them use it.
Of course, in this case it’s also just a narrative rule (Chekhov’s gun). Roy really has learned a lot from Elan.
I notice that we’ve been reminded of Elan’s puppet.
40 quatloos on Chekov’s Skill being crochet.
I think Elans puppet will end up being significant. Odin was fully prepared to recognize Banjo after all. What if Banjo interceded with the Dark One on behalf of the other pantheons?
