Okay, first of all, that assumes that the Oracle is on the Azure City calendar. This seems doubtful as the Azurites celebrate New Year a few months later than everyone else. So, probably we are not far into the year.
Secondly, there have been two predictions. The first one, where the Oracle said that Belkar should savour his next birthday cake, that was made almost a year ago, but has no specified time limit on it.
The other prophecy which specified he would draw his last breath before the end of the year was made only a few days ago, Stickverse time. At most, three weeks ago. I conclude, therefore that we are two or three months into belkar’s last year alive.
That of course does not mean that he won’t die soon. It just extends the time limit for death.
I assume this is directed at jayjay and me. I can’t speak for him, but I’m running on the fumes of roleplaying experience when I talk about this stuff. I literally have not played any role playing game at all in probably 20 years. Since high school, anyway, and that’s been a loooooong time ago.
As I said, the mythology is interesting to me (and OotS is a bangin’ good story), and I wouldn’t know a White Wolf game if it bit me in the tuckus.
Seriously…I don’t believe either one of us was disparaging D&D. We were just saying that while we loved to read the books, we weren’t so much about the role-playing. Not a shame/reputation/penis size thing, just an observation.
We know that “Belkar will draw his last breath” and “he is not long for this world”. So at the very least, he’d have to end up as some sort of freaky undead and be exiled to some other plane. Much simpler to just say he’s dead, Jim.
Straying ever further afield of topic, but unable to pass up a chance at pedantry:
4e’s cosmology is substantially different than the Great Wheel of yore. Although there is still an “Abyss”, wherein are demon-types, it’s not really an Outer Plane/afterlife type of place, and although it’s infinite, it does not have 666+ layers.
By the way, I didn’t notice that anyone had mentioned it yet, but Tsukiko and more importantly Redcloak(Who normally is very perceptive) are calling V she.
The strip’s foremost expert on the subject of humanoid sexuality has referred to V as both male and female, on two different occasions. Given that, I don’t think we can really conclude anything from anyone’s perceptions of em.
That’s a thought. Does Belknar have a corresponding member in the Linear Guild? (Not that I can see why a Lawful Good character would be with the guild, but who knows…)
