Pranks (and scams) like that recall the SSD’s which are typically high-capacity and fast, being sold cheaply. Not only did they have a regular SD card or two inside - maybe 8 Gb each) they had flashed the microcontroller to report 512Gb, 1024Gb.
And they would work. Slowly and only up to 16Gb.
