Yet a live television news broadcast now 11 hours later reveals the couple in the semi-truck had their dog with them, and it’s on the side of the road, alive, unattended and alone!

WTF!!!

I know, I know. Eight fire fighters died. Two others in the semi injured. But what about the dog? It is a pet of those injured. How will they feel when they know their dog was left alone by everyone? For many people, a pet is part of the family just like a human child.

You mean to tell me the television reporters reporting live from the scene 11 hours later – and telling the story of this dog – cannot help the dog?

(And before you think I’m being callous, I do fight forest fires during the season. I have friends who died on fires. Our team is awaiting another callout.)

Fuck the dog.

Initial reports say the kid that was driving tried to pass a semi on a two lane highway (which was curvy) and ran head-on into the other semi.

That sucks.

Damn.

I suspect that rescue workers have a policy to not help or treat animals. They don’t know the animal, and it could be pretty freaked out. They do not need a dog bite to treat on top of the injuries sustained by the victims. And how would they transport it? You can’t have an animal in the ambulance–little enough room as it is.

What they DO need to do in such a situation, however, is get on the horn and make sure the sheriff contacts the animal welfare organization in the area. There’s no reason why that dog needed to be left there so long.

Maybe the dog’s job was to keep an eye on the rig?

How is Rap like Porn? Both are better with the sound turned off.

It could be the case that they didn’t know, or he was left for dead.

There are several stories of humans left alive in a catastrophe, the rescuers not knowing.

I’d like to think that Cranky is right. When I was working as an animal control officer, I was called out to several accidents to retrieve pets.

The human rescue workers have their priorities right in taking care of the people. Hopefully someone thought to call animal control or the humane society, but I can see it getting overlooked in a tragedy like that.
