Anyone out there from Oregon? I’m moving from Eugene to the Portlad area soon (Beaverton, specifically).
Any pointers on making the transition?
Take a raincoat. I was out there three weeks ago, and BOY does it rain.
Well, you’ll drive through my hometown of Salem on the way. Um. What pointers are you looking for? Go to Powell’s, Django’s and Dr. Tongue’s. Avoid Pioneer Place and Nike. Visit every store on Hawthorne and none on Burnside. Don’t drink the water. At least, not from the Willamette. Ski Mt. Hood. Hike Ape Caves. If you go to the laser light show, bring cookies for the stoners. Avoid Hwy. 217 at all costs.
I learned to avoid 217 the hard way, as that’s the way I took up to get to the apartments I was looking at. Arrgghh!!!
Mainly the pointers I’m looking for are: Best place to get falling-down, s***tfaced drunk? Best unpretentious, good-old-Southern-cookin’ restaurant? Best place to take my wife and baby daughter for the day? Is the zoo a good one (and I don’t want to hear from any PETA people)? Are there many comedy clubs up there? Are there any bars that have open mike music nite, and if so, are the audiences easy or tough? Best auto mechanic? Best area to buy a house in (not overpriced, low crime, cool neighborhood)?
Pointers on these or any other subjects would be appreciated.
