Origin/etymology of the name "Pataki"?

Pardon me for posting, but I think I have a relatively simple question (Sorry)…Does anyone know the national origin and/or etymology of the family name “Pataki”? NONE of my reference books offered any help (Which is scary enough), and the web has just been giving me red herrings. Can anyone help?

I think it’s Romanian, maybe specifically Transylvanian.

A quick search on Google for “pataki romania” gives 1700 results.

:smack:

Okay, after a bit more searching it now looks like it’s Hungarian.

Not entirely sure about this, but I think “patak” is a Hungarian word meaning stream or brook, so Pataki would mean something like “of the stream” or “by the stream” or something like that.
