Can anyone tell me where the word “snavelled” originated from? It means “to gobble up” and I was hoping for a dictionary definition but I think it may be slang.

The Macquarie dictionary notes it as a variation on snaffle/d
Damn, doing too many things at once, that quote was from the Mac slang dictionary, the Mac proper shows snaffle/snavel as an Australian colloquialism but it does list it.
