Ok, One for the english people,
What are the Origins of the nicknames associated with the different areas of England?
Scousers = Liverpudlians
Geordies = Novocastrians
Brummies = Birminghamers
Cockneys = Londoners
And Any other you can think of…
what do these words mean, why are these people called this?
Scouser formed from scouse, shortened form of lobscouse (a stewed meat-and-vegetable dish served on ships)
Geordie, diminutive of the given name George (because it was a common name in Northumberland?)
Brummie = related to Brummagem, dialectal form of Birmingham
Cockney = cock’s egg, a misshapen egg. Used derisively by country folk to refer to effeminate city-dwellers.
