Original Quake question

I’m currently traveling down memory lane and playing Quake again. I’ve got the setup that gives winquake and GLquake. In GL quake the brightness is very low. I’ve increased it in the options and also my actual monitor brightness but it’s still too dark.

I have a vague memory of some gamma command that you put in from the console anybody remember what that command is?

Oh and a pointer to some good mod’s, mission packs etc would be appreciated

Oh and does anyone know where I can find the movie of Killcreek playing a deathmatch with Romaro(SP?) I’ve been searching for it but only found dead links.

Quake done quick still blows me away. God I love Quake. It’s the game equivalent of Star Wars IMO.

Cheers

The command is 'gamma ’ followed by a number. 1 is the default.

micilin (reading the straightdope on holidays and fantasising about playing Quake)

Yep tried that and it still doesn’t work :frowning: (0=white 2=black)

Maybe it’s a hardware thing as it’s only GLquake that has the problem. I’ll go look for patchs etc.

Wow, qdq brings back memories. Did you ever see the one where they used the reaper mod to do speedruns? In the edited together movie version, the qdq team had the main character get drunk, make a stupid bet that he could beat the game in some ridiculous time (like, "under 14 minutes) or something–then in order to get through fast enough, they had him capture a reaper and ride him piggyback style through the rest of the game. Really amusing stuff.

Ah, the hell with Quake.

Everyone knows that Quisp was better.

yojimbo, did you try something like gamma 0.5?

" try a function key…up at the upper end, like F10. Each time you hit it the screen will brighten" and “if it is not F10, then try F11, etc.”

Cheers all. Got it sorted by updating to a more recent version of GL. The problem just went away

slortar I haven’t seen that one it sounds like a good one. I’ll have to have a look for it. I spent a couple of hours killing and being killed by those little jumpy reaper bastards last night and would like to see one treated in such a manner.

It’s worth a download, if you can find it. It might still be on planetquake.com somewhere…hmm…lemme see if I can find a link…ah, here it is. Get the refilmed version…
