Any other Board-folk attending this year? I got into registration as soon as they opened up, and still ended up having two of my choices sold out…
Liz and I will be there.
Odd that I never got the email announcing event registration.
We do mostly LARPs anyway, so selling out usually isn’t a problem. Most GMs will sneak you in with enough advanced notice even if their roles are all filled since LARPs aren’t really designed around the balance of powers and more for what makes a good story.
And apparently I know why I didn’t get the email about event registration.
I didn’t register.
But I did book the hotel.
I now seem to vaguely recall in the recesses of my mind back in December they were having problems with badge registration, which resulted in me being able to procure the hotel reg code, but not actually register a badge. And then with everything else I was dealing with at the time (i.e. Taking a voluntary layoff from my company and looking for another job) I forgot that I hadn’t actually registered for a badge. I even double checked my Quicken history in case my registration got lost or something, but no charge from them shows up. So yeah, I didn’t register.
Fortunately, I still got the early bird price for both Liz and I anyway.
Am I the only one who read the title as Orgies Game Fair?
No, the Orgies Game Fair is also known as DragonCon.
MrWhatsit will be going as usual. I probably will not. It’s just too much of a pain in the ass to arrange child care. One of these days we’ll both be able to go again.
We’re both members of CABS (Columbus Area Boardgaming Society) which runs the Boardroom at Origins, and from what I’ve heard, the Boardroom is basically like a supercharged version of a regular CABS meeting, which means it should be tons o’ fun for anyone who’s into board games. That’s my plug.
I’ll be there, despite the fact that, every year, I get frustrated with GAMA’s amateurish approach to registration. I give them credit for finally having an online registration system which works (3 or 4 years ago, it was a nightmare), but to have one of the largest gaming cons in the country (a) not do their event registration until 3 weeks before the con, and (b) give less than a 48-hour* notice to attendees about when it will happen, is really mind-boggling. As I was getting on a plane on Tuesday morning, when registration went live, I had to have a friend do my registration for me.
I’ll be playing organized-play D&D campaigns (Living Forgotten Realms, Legends of Arcanis, and Pathfinder Society).
- – actually, someone from GAMA posted the information on the Origins Facebook page on Saturday, but the general notice was via e-mail, which did not come out until Monday morning.
