Why do the Baltimore Orioles all have a “44” on their left sleeves?

Virginia Beach, Va.: At the Orioles/Nationals games last weekend, why were players wearing a small number 44 on their left jersey sleeves? Great chats . . . San Diego rocks!

Jorge Arangure Jr.: Let’s go with an simple one here to ease our way into this chat. The quick answer is that the 44 is for former Oriole player and longtime bullpen coach Elrod Hendricks, who passed away in December. He is missed tremendously by the Orioles, though his number won’t likely be retired because the team wants to stick to a policy of only retiring Hall of Fame player numbers.
