What’s the straight dope on the Orpheus amulet?
Given a quick web search, it seems it’s a forgery, but the only sites discussing it appear to be agenda-driven Christian apologetics sites.
So what’s the scholarly consensus on this artefact?

I like to think I am pretty well informed on archeological frauds and religious humbuggery, but I have never heard of this amulet until just now.
