Oh wow, and here’s where the pain really comes. Going against Kong & the Marx Brothers, the Dreyer, Gance and Tourneur–and that’s just in the first grouping! Ouch. :frowning: But that still leaves plenty of brilliant silent films, and the incredible Hawks & Lubitsch as well.

Things don’t get any easier, jettisoning the (gulp) Mizoguchi, Kurosawa, Welles, and Tarkovsky right off the bat. But the other films are worth it, especially the amazing Sweet Smell and the awesome Hunter.

Phew! An easy round, though I’ll admit to probably preferring The Thing by a nose, but since I’m sure it’s going to win, I can escape without having to vote against Tarkovsky twice.

And that final round shows how looney the IMDB can be sometimes. The Professional? Snatch?!? Yikes. Still, if you’ve never seen Gypsies, it is one of the most beautiful and moving films from that period (and it’s not even Kusturica’s best!).

No time for comments in these last 2 threads, you all will have to do without. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know anybody in the US who refers to the movie as Leon. They do in Europe, of course (even the UK), but if I put the original title in the thread (even with the director annotation), I’d be willing to bet 80% of the people who’d even seen the film wouldn’t know what movie I was talking about.

Just 20 hours left!
