I think you have to really know a lot about cinematography and the history of film to fully appreciate Citizen Kane. It was good, but I wasn’t as blown away as I feel I should’ve been, and I feel a little guilty for that.

1928-1947
[1] Citizen Kane
[7] The Maltese Falcon
[11] Brief Encounter
[4] Double Indemnity

It sucked to have to eliminate The Great Dictator.

1948-1967
[1] Rear Window
[2] The Seven Samurai
[14] Cool Hand Luke
[4] Dr. Strangelove

It’s often said that “Singin’ in the Rain” is the best musical ever, but I don’t like musicals.

1968-1987
[8] La Traviata
[10] Back to the Future
[11] Ran
[5] Das Boot

I guess I am not surprised “The Princess Bride” made the first cut, but I’m appalled to see it’s probably going to make the second as well.

1988-2007
[9] Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
[2] Pulp Fiction
[3] Goodfellas
[4] City of God

Shawshank Redemption, too. Yowza.
