Oscar nominations are out

He was post-op in that film, so yeah, that counts. Well done.

Hairspray did have a couple new songs, including “Come So Far (Got So Far to Go)”–not great, but still, come on! Let’s spread the wealth a little (especially since “So Close” is a snoozer and “Happy Working Song” is a cutsie throw-away at best).

I hope you’re right about the vote-split though (it certainly seemed to do the trick with Dreamgirls last year) because that would almost guarantee an Oscar forOnce, and that would be well-deserved indeed.

Just got back from seeing There Will Be Blood, the last of the nominees I hadn’t seen. Very disappointing. I thought it was a great performance by Daniel Day Lewis in an otherwise mediocre film. None of the characters responded or behaved in the way real people do. And whoever wrote the screenplay has obviously never seen the inside of a church, because the church scenes were ludicrous and surreal.

Out of the films nominated, my pick would be No Country for Old Men. I believe No Country and Juno will be the only films among the best picture nominees that will be regarded as classics 15 years from now. Michael Clayton is also very good, but not quite that level.

It’s a shame that Into the Wild didn’t get nominated. I believe it will also be well-regarded for a long time.

Oh hell yeah. “Falling Slowly” is the best song to be nominated for an Oscar in a long time. And since “Once” was my favorite movie last year, I’d love to see it get some recognition on Oscar night.

I can just see the top of the DVD case right now…

heh.

Here are some nice reactions from some of the nominees.

I’m just glad Gone Baby Gone got no nominations as it was Shit Baby Shit

I haven’t seen a single nominee, probably because I only saw two theatrical releases in 2007 (**Die Hard 17 ** and the god-awful Knocked Up, which I am so glad got shut out.) The good news is I now have many more films to add to my Netflix queue.

Amy Ryan got her nomination for best supporting actress rescinded?

Y’all, geez! If I may…

There Will Be Blood is an instant classic, a true American epic.
Michael Clayton is a very good movie, especially for a first feature.
Gone Baby Gone is a very good movie, especially for a first feature.
Knocked Up was one of the funniest and heartfelt movies of the year.

Anymore debunking needs to be done I’ll be back.

I was pleased to see Sarah Polley’s nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, even if she did not get nominated for Best Director for Away From Her. It seems to me unlikely that this will be her last work from the other side of the camera.

I was also pleased to see that Daniel Day-Lewis was nominated as well. I’ve not seen There Will Be Blood yet, but I do like him a lot. And hey, he’s a good actor, too.

Another movie that should have gotten some consideration (at the very least for cinematography and acting - particularly Steve Zahn in a supporting role) is Rescue Dawn. (Though it’s listed as a 2006 release, it wasn’t released in the US until 2007. I’m a little fuzzy on the rules, but I think it would be eligible for Oscars this year.)

I don’t read so good I guess- :smack: :smack: :smack:

Agreed. I want there to be an Oscar ceremony if only to see them perform this song there.
