Catch me up: Why would they shame Damon?
That Don Guy: Okay, I get it. I hadn’t thought about filters.

It’s been a long-running joke on Jimmy’s show. Matt and Jimmy take turns dissing one another, and frequently Jimmy will say at the end of the show something to the effect of, “Sorry, we didn’t have time to bring Matt Damon on this week, we’ll try next time.”
Nearly all the political statements were to show that the vast majority of the people in Hollywood hate the sexual harassment of women engaged in by people like Harvey Weinstein and don’t want to be blamed for it. There are undoubtedly people in the TV audience who don’t like any political statements at all. I don’t think that’s the reason for any decrease in the TV audience. I think it’s more likely that it’s just that people don’t like awards ceremonies as much anymore.
It’s a pretty big drop in just one year. However, it actually had a smaller audience in 2007. I think it’s more likely to be about the films nominated in any given year. I actually always find it strange when people say the content of a given episode of TV is to blame for low Nielsen ratings. Wouldn’t it be about the previous episode if anything? Unless there’s evidence that lots of people turned this one off after initially tuning in?

In fairness, if (a) you’re the sort of person who tunes in to see whether that film you really liked wins Best Picture, and whether a couple of movie stars you’re big fans of get all choked up during their acceptance speeches; and if (b) you already got a good look at the list of this year’s nominees, and said meh…
Gosh, I didn’t get that at all. Do you feel that way about all awards shows? Are you a fan of movies / Hollywood in general? Not trying to challenge your opinion; just interested.
But surely it’s not a real feud?

It’s not and stop calling us Shirley.
Thanks for the info!
The Jack Benny/Fred Allen “feud” was a long-running work. Pretty hilarious, too.
Are you telling me that Ben Affleck sneaking Matt Damon on to Kimmel’s show under his coat was fake?
