I’m hoping Sandra gets it. I mean, it’s almost cliche for Meryl to win. Although, she did a great job as Julia Child. But I like it when someone new get a chance.
It is?? She’s only won twice, one for Supporting and one for Lead, and the last win was in 1983, 27 years ago. How in the world is it even almost a cliche for Meryl to win?
Are you talking about Bullock or Streep there? Bullock was awful in an awful comedy. I couldn’t tell you what comedy Streep was in, since I never find her funny at all. Was Julia and Julia a comedy? Which box office sensations was she in? (Not doubting you, I know you’re all over this stuff, just not paying enough attention, I guess.
The Proposal was a substantial hit this past year, with The Blind Side even bigger, setting a record for the highest b.o. for a film with a single female lead propelling its revenues.
In all fairness, Bullock has also been nominated for a Razzie for her 3rd film this past year, the by-all-accounts terrible All About Steve, but that really won’t be held against her in light of the other two major successes.
I said almost. Nowadays, when an actress is (or isn’t) doing some seriously good acting, there’s the inevitable “Well, she’s no Meryl Streep” or “Watch out Meryl Streep, here comes ____.” It seems that she has become the epitome of a great actress today. She seems to be the marker to which actresses are compared.
I like Meryl, don’t get me wrong, but everyone (including Meryl) knows she’s amazing. Let someone else get the glory for once.
