That’s interesting. alphaboi867. Why do you think that?
I just noticed one glaring omission: Nancy Pelosi.
She may or may not be interested in the job (if the Democrats retake the House, she could be Speaker, and she might prefer that position), but since Nancy Pelosi has become, for many, the face of the Democratic opposition to Bush, she might be able to make a strong run.
That’s like saying I could be the center of the Lakers, if I were a foot taller.
Neither woman has any hope of getting a place on a Republican ticket, let alone the top spot.
Well they’re both popular in their own states. They’re both the right age (Minner is in her 70s). Blanco has too much Katrina baggage. Sebelius got elected in a conservative state. Also she married and has children (it’s been a long time since we’ve had a bachelor president).
Pelosi? Good call. What about my choices? Ann Richards has a good rep, and Christine Todd Whitman has White House experience, and left on what seems to be principle. And was always very capable… she’s got good numbers with Dems as well as Pubs.
Pelosi? I don’t know. Being a minority or majority leader (and/or Speaker hopeful) is less about governance than it is about fund-raising, power-brokering, and keeping the party organization on track. It may come with press, but that’s its only advantage in terms of setting up a presidential run. Plus, you’re the ultimate Washington insider, which adds to the perception that you can’t be trusted, and you’re blamed for every screwup your party has recently made.
Mmm, but she’s in the Party out of Power, and she can run as being kept down by the Pubs… and we’ve heard a lot about the Republicans blocking things. And the Dems haven’t had much chance to screwup lately.
She could do it in 08, if she wanted to. Frankly, in her position, I’d stay, but she could go both insider and outsider in one election, thanks to the double Republican Senate/Executive.
(2nd try)
Since you started it - Angelina Jolie, she strikes me as being more politically savvy.
Depends on the country. Albright was almost-formally offered the Presidency of the Czech Republic.
I hear Cynthia McKinney’s free these days.
Nancy may not be a bad bet. Dems take the House and she becomes Speaker, Bush and Cheney go hunting, leading to Bush’s death, and Cheney’s heart can’t stand the strain. Two heartbeats stop and she’s in the White House.
Madam President Ann Coulter, has a nice ring to it.
Wasn’t she recently diagnosed with a particularly virulent form of cancer? Esophageal, perhaps?
We used to get a lot od lacal news about her but she’s been very quiet the last 10 years or so and, frankly, in video of her after her prognosis she did appear to have aged appreciably.
Crap. Besides Elizabeth Dole, you disqualified two of my top three picks.
Something tells me that if W got the bump, Cheney would amaze us with his abilities to recuperate.
