Other than Hillary Clinton, that is. This is not to say you personally want these people to be, but you think they have the experience and cold possibly be elected:
Condi Rice
Diane Feinstein
Oprah Winfrey (I only list here since Trump got elected)
I went for variety-- One Republican, one Democrat, one Celebrity.
Nikki Haley, Tammy Duckworth, maybe Elizabeth Warren or Kamala Harris if the conditions in 2020 line up just right? (This was actually harder than I thought, because “women who could plausibly gain their party’s nomination” and “women who could plausibly win the general election” are categories that don’t really overlap that much. I, personally, would consider voting for a Republican for president for the first time in my life if Susan Collins were running, but there simply isn’t any way she could get the Republican nomination, despite having on-paper qualifications that are at least as strong as any number of other nominees.)
Dianne Feinstein is an admirable and accomplished person, but she’s 84. Are we to pick candidates who might have a realistic shot at becoming President in 2020 or later? Sen. Feinstein probably won’t be up for a campaign at age 88.
How the heck is Condoleezza Rice on this list? Yeah, she didn’t embarrass herself as Bush’s Secretary of State. But she’s never held an elective office, and never will.
How the heck does she win the Republican primary anyway? Assuming she’s running as a Republican? If the Republicans wanted a bloodless technocratic policy wonk they would have voted for Hillary in 2016. The only way she could end up president is if she were serving in a Republican cabinet position and there’s a terrorist attack that kills everyone above her.
Also, in case you hadn’t heard, Dianne Feinstein is 84 years old.
Here’s the thing. Any governor, or senator, or even representative could end up as president if the odds line up in just the right way for them. But all we’re doing here is listing female politicians we’ve heard of.
and I’m seriously not trolling or going for a laugh. her problem isn’t that she wasn’t qualified (because she was way more qualified than you-know-who) but that she had so much baggage that it would have been borderline impossible to win. and by “baggage” I mean:
those on the right would be sure to turn out and vote against her, especially because they hated her when Bill was president, and
she had no charisma and was nominated with the notion of “it’s her time,” and failed to get Democratic voters to turn out.
First 6 words of the original post fairly clearly ask the thread to NOT be about Hillary Clinton. So other than Hilary bashing, do you have any names to add to the list?
My names have already been used. I would like to see Warren in the job, but I don’t know if she is electable in a national race. Kamala Harris could be a good choice, she is a smart cookie.
Sally Yates would be an interesting choice, but no idea how she views running for office.
This is pretty clearly off-topic, and there are quite a number of other threads where you can be on-topic discussing why you think Hillary Clinton can’t be president. Please don’t attempt to derail this thread.
