To have your own doom haunting you throughout your whole life, following you from place to place, and then maybe being conscious when you become that doom, conscious enough to weep and go mad and age dramatically gives me chills every time.
I personally thought the series was excellent, though I didn’t like the ending.
It’s a horror series. The “happy” ending felt forced and didn’t really fit with the rest of the show. The house is an absolute nightmare for most of the series, but then at the end it’s ok for all of the Crain ghosts to live in and they all end up happy ever after? I know that they at least considered a reveal at the end where they were all still stuck in the Red Room. I would have very much preferred that ending.
The Bent Neck Lady was definitely up there, both as a plot twist and as an emotionally heart-breaking moment. So yeah, I’m going to agree with you on that.
The show also has one of the best jump scares of all time.
Spoilers from some older movies and shows:
The plot twist in The Sixth Sense was also one of the best ever.
The Others was also good.
Primal Fear had a good plot twist, but not as good as the Sixth Sense or Hill House (IMHO).
American Horror Story’s plot twist that Violet was already dead is another good one.
American Horror Story is excellent. And I didn’t know Flanagan had come out with that. I can still leave it up to my decision, I don’t have to listen to him. Maybe they are in, maybe not!
