I feel like I shouldn’t laugh at their little faces, but I must! Everyone’s so cute.
Iggy was a “street dog” and had a hard life before my wife found him. He was pretty badly injured, with broken, infected leg that the vets wanted to lop off, and a broken jaw. The mis-aligned jaw gives him a “gangster” look, like he’s chewing on a cigar.
His white chest looks like he’s blowing ciggie smoke out the left side of his mouth. ![]()
Whenever I see a blind dog, I think Oh, how horrible for Spot! Then I mentally smack myself because blind dogs get around practically as good as sighted ones. It’s amazing!
I love that photo of Andy! The flying ears, the shining eyes: they’re a dog’s true identity, even when their bodies don’t cooperate any more. I’m so sorry for your loss, but I can’t be sorry for Andy. His life was obviously full and happy and full of love.
May your grief be gentle.
I have an Iggy as well, with a deformed spine. He’s my crooked little angel.
Yep.
My vet said he had a client who didn’t know her dog was blind - he had to demonstrate it to her!
Buddy has had juvenile cataracts since he was a puppy. When we rescued him, he could maybe see some shadows, but now he is 100% blind. He gets around just fine, but I need to be careful when walking him, because he will plow into trees, etc.
Our Border Collie, Annie (gone three years, now), was a rescue from a rat-bastard breeder. One of her pups was also rescued, but he went to a different area. We still follow his antics. Vet had to take both his eyes because of internal pressure. The bright side: his adopted sibling dog is his seeing eye dog and guides him around for walks and playtime; you’d never know he has no peepers. Again, it’s amazing!
I am so sorry for your loss. That pic is wonderful - Andy looks so full of joy, he obviously had such a great life with you. Hang on to the good memories, they are truly precious.
Deepest sympathies. Losing a beloved pet is one of the harder things to go through in life.
Losing a junior citizen hurts.
My sympathies.
I’m sorry for the loss of your fuzzy family member, @beowolf. Even when it’s time, it sucks to lose a friend. Give the others scritches from us. They are mourning, too.
I’ve often thought that being a well-cared for, well-loved dog must be a fine existence indeed. Sorry for your loss @beowulff but please think of the happiness you gave Andy, which shines through in the pic.
I’m sorry that you lost Andy. But I’m happy that you had Andy in your life as long as you did.

Yeah, we’ve had several dogs who went blind in old age, and they adjusted amazingly well.
