We rescued him in 2007, and he wasn’t a puppy. He outlasted three other dogs. We thought he was on his last legs 3 years ago, but he soldiered on.
When he was young, he was pretty athletic:
Deepest sympathies, @beowulff . Even when they’re old and creaky, it hits hard. I still tear up over our Max, and he died in May. They leave a big hole.
My prayers of comfort go out to you. It is always hard to lose a family member.
I just put him in the ground, with all the other pets.
We are running out of spots…
sigh
So sorry to hear of your loss. I know how it feels to lose a trusted companion. You may be sad now but you must already realize that good dogs live on forever in our memories
What a beautiful dog! RIP, Andy.
This cartoon was in my newspaper a few days ago.
Thanks for that…
My condolences. Losing pets is hard. I remember all 7 dogs I’ve loved and lost, and our current dog is age 14 so there’s more grief ahead. Thankfully they’re worth the heartbreak, but damn it hurts.
I’m very sorry for your loss.
No matter how long, it’s never long enough.
This, exactly. It’s what we have to give for what we get; and it’s worth it; but it’s not easy.
I’m very sorry for your loss. But thank you for giving him – something over 17 years? of what must have been an excellent life. The joy in that photo is palpable.
He was beautiful, Beowoof [sic].
May your grief be mercifully brief, but may the memories of his time in your life be sweet and permanent.
So sorry to hear this. What a wonderful picture that is, worth a thousand words.
So sorry for your loss.
He looked like a fun little dude.
Just remember the good stuff
What a runner he was! I am sorry for your loss and the pain you must be feeling. That’s a long time to have a dog.
So sorry.
We outlive our pets, which means sadness, nut it is even more sad when they outlive us.
Sad news. Good thoughts to you and yours. He looks like he was spirited.
The sheer, unmitigated joy expressed by Andy in the photo you shared tells us all we need to know about the wonderful life you shared together. Well done to you for giving Andy an enviable life. The grief is nearly overwhelming, but when it abates, you will always have these precious memories of your beloved pup.
My best to you in a really tough time.
Thanks for the thoughts, everyone.
My wife and I took a break and went out to lunch today. When we got home, I looked on my calendar, and noticed that I had missed a Vet appointment for one of our other dogs. I called them and actually got to use the excuse that, well, our dog died.
(We re-scheduled for later in the day).
This is from around 2 years ago:
Andy is on the right, next to Iggy (the one who had the appointment), and Buddy, the blind Chocolate Lab in the rear. Iggy and Buddy are still doing well.
I’m so sorry about Andy, beowulff, looks like he had a marvelous pack to run with.
