Our LONG election system is pretty good! (I've changed my mind on this.)

In the past I did not understand why our election process takes so long… Have to listen to the candidates FOREVER! Etc.

But I’m beginning to think this is a good thing. Perhaps those people who designed our system of government knew what they were doing?

The reason I’ve changed my mind is that about a year ago I would have thought someone like Trump might make a good president. But seeing him self-destruct lately (3:00 am in the morning tweets), I’m thinking it is good to “get to know” the candidates before electing one of them.

Anyway the older I get, the more I appreciate things. (My parents became smarter as I grew older as well!)

This system wasn’t designed by the people who set up the system of government. There were no formal parties back then. This ridiculous 2 year election grew organically from party dynamics and term limits/fixed election dates.

The longer process gives time for scandals to come to light. On the other hand, it doesn’t speak well of the media or the electorate that it took this long to figure out the obvious.
