Our pack has increased by one

We’ve been thinking about our dogs lately. We have three, and have found that to be a good number. The age of our pack is a concern, though. The eldest, Ella (on the left) is now 15 and has been close to death several times. The next oldest, Kali (on the right) just turned eleven. Loki (in the center) is seven.

We’d like our next dog to have the opportunity to learn from Ella and Kali (while hopefully not picking up bad habits from aptly named Loki), but that would mean increasing our pack size to four. What to do?

Introducing Kizzy!

So far she has been outstanding. We picked her up yesterday and she has not eliminated in the house yet! I set Alexa to wake me every two hours over night and one or both of us peed outside each time.

WHAT A CUTIE!

So, she has you trained to do your bizness outside already; outstanding!

I have a friend who lost one of his two cats. The survivor is 15. He got two kittens, and it was quite an adjustment for the older cat. She did “lay down the law” by batting them in the head every time they got too annoying, but it was stressful for her.

Can Ella handle some young puppy pestering her and running all over the place? I know dogs are more social than cats, so maybe this isn’t an issue.

Ella loves the new pup, and Kizzy is smart enough to walk away if Ella doesn’t want to play. Kali has always loved puppies. She and Kizzy are best friends already. We took the dogs on a hike and Kizzy followed Kali on the trail. On the return part of our hike, Kizzy led the way, sniffing the trail like a pro.

That leaves Loki. Loki doesn’t want another dog in the house. She is sad.

Sad but cute as all get out!

That’s Loki’s “thundershirt”. She had a real thundershirt and it worked to calm her during storms. I couldn’t find it this spring, so we put this weird thing on her and it worked.

She’s just jealous, that’s why she’s in a funk. Give her some extra loving for a while, and she’ll perk up!

Loki is a nut. She gets all kinds of attention all the time, then walks away to sulk because it wasn’t enough.

Four dogs? I am sending you goodwill and wishes for strength in these difficult times. Also five dog smoochies; please distribute to all and give the extra to Loki!

Oh, wow, she is just like “Loki”! LOL

Heh…Rocco loves Loki though. No other dog can get in Rocco’s face without a nose bite.

Oh, my! Your dogs are adorable! And the new puppy: squeee! But the photo of sad Loki stole my heart. They are very lucky dogs…and bird…to have such caring people.

That … I say, that there … is an almost intolerably cute puppy.

He shoots, he scores !

Congrats ! Hope you drew to an inside straight with this one.

ETA: and you have a grey ??? Nice !!

We’ve been working hard training Kizzy. Every 2-3 hours I wake up and take her out to pee. When I took her out at 4:30 am she peed nicely, then I put her back in her crate (in our bedroom) and fell back to sleep.

I do not wear my hearing aid in bed. As I fell asleep, my gf awoke to the sound of Kizzy barking from somewhere not our bedroom. She got out of bed and rushed off to find Kizzy, but Kizzy was nowhere and the barking had stopped.

She returned to the bedroom and woke me. The barking started again. I knew I’d locked her in her crate, but somehow she’d escaped. I turned on the light and Kizzy was in her crate.

Yes, our parrot played a joke on us.

Sleepy.
