Well our eldest son fractured his wrist. It is called a buckle fracture. He was at school on Wednesday and they were taking a break from CSAP’s and went for a walk outside. They were told by their teacher not to run, so what do they all do? They run! He was on the hill and he couldn’t stop and kept yelling “I can’t stop, I can’t stop!” and so one of the girls stuck her leg out and he tripped and fell on his forearm and scraped up his knee. He favored it for 2 days until we went to the Dr.'s and he got a splint and went to get it X-rayed. Low and behold he fractured it. So he has to keep it in a splint for 4-6 weeks and can take it off when he showers or takes a bath. We are going to Mexico on the 28th! But he can take it off when he is in the water. If it’s better in 2 weeks he can take it off. Buckle fractures heal pretty fast on their own. So we will see how it goes. Just had to share this even though it is MPSIMS.
That sucks. I was a lucky kid, I only broke a finger. Left hand pinky to be exact, during a heated match of tetherball in 3rd grade.
At least he didn’t break his leg or something in May. I always thought about how much it sucked for the kids that ended up doing that…spending the whole summer with a cast on their leg. And hopefully he is young enough to not care he will end up with an odd tan line on his arm hah.
Hope his arm is feeling better. Doctors tell me that kids heal quickly, and are quite resilient.
My middle son fractured his wrist by tipping over one of the office chairs, a few months ago. He had a cast from his fingers up past his little elbow, which he got removed on his second birthday. (The cast, not his elbow.) Poor baby.
During the time he had the cast, he insisted on sleeping with us. And rolling over and whacking one of us in the face with that damn cast at least three times a night.
I broke my arm during the summer when I was 13. It sucked, I couldn’t ride my bike or go swimming. Then I discovered another, very fun, activity that I only needed one hand for .
That’s way less embarassing than the way I broke my forearm when I was his age. We were at a party hosted by one of my parents’ friends’ house. One of their sons had a wheelchair, and the rest of us were using it to push each other around the yard. Whoever was pushing me hit a garden hose, and I tried to break my fall, plus the weight of the wheelchair, and the person pushing me! It wasn’t fun, to say the least.
My brother fractured the growth plate in his left wrist - twice. Skateboarding both times, once at the beginning of summer and once at the beginning of the school year. He’s still skating, that’s the worst injury he’s had and it didn’t affect the growth of his arm so he’s actually been pretty lucky.
Hope your son is feeling better!
I fractured my right wrist when I was 4, at daycare. I was kicking a soccerball and kicked too hard, missing the ball, and flipping over and breaking my wrist.
The day care owner told my father that I was sitting quietly in a chair and said my arm hurt. Sure.
I fractured my left forearm when I was 10, standing still on a push scooter. I turned to see my friend coming and the scooter slid out from under me on some gravel. I wasn’t even riding it!
Thanks for the well wishes everyone! I remember when I was in school (can’t remember what grade) I was outside on the grounds and my friends and I were screwing around and I stole my friends stuffed animal and was running away from her and I wasn’t watching where I was going and I turned around to see if she was chasing me and I ran smack hard into another kid and fractured my upper arm. It didn’t break all the way through so I only got a sling. I always thought getting a cast would be cool!
Agreed. I broke my collarbone two days after school let out my senior year and one week before I was supposed to leave for Germany on an exchange trip. Spent the summer with my arm in a sling and my ass as well, because we only got 50% refund on the trip and my old man was NOT pleased with me.
