(Out of) fashion question

I’m going to have a hard time phrasing this, because I know next to nothing about fabric and fashion, but here goes…

What was the name of, and even better can you find a picture of, the common 1970’s men’s winter coat that was was basically waist level, with a fake wool lining and an exposed fake wool fleece collar? They buttoned up the middle, and in place of buttons, many had short rods that would hook into loops.

The mental picture in my mind of a guy wearing one is Sgt. Wojohowicz from Barney Miller, although I may be misremembering that. I tried googling him but didn’t see what I was looking for.

Was is usually brown or tan courderoy on the outside? Was is what is called a shearling coat?

Like any of these? Especially down towards the bottom.

A pea coat? Try a google image of that.

I think the shearling coat is probably the name for the style, but googling that shows some really stylish versions. The one I’m thinking of was pretty crappy - I don’t know what the outer fabric was, but I doubt there was much natual fiber involved at all. The colors and patterns would vary - I remember some in plaid!

Where I graduated from High School (Northern Va, 1979) it seemed like 90% of the boys wore these.

They were also called Rancher coats. They were made popular by the “McCloud” TV series.

I feel old.
