Out of touch politicians

I’m reminded of a gag from The Simpsons where Principal Skinner is attempting to convince Superintendent Chalmers that the phrase “steamed hams” is a regional dialect from upstate New York.

Turns out Chalmers is from Utica and has never heard it, so Skinner adds that it’s confined to Albany.

I was thinking it must be the apocryphal football team comprising half Nebraska players and half Indiana players

Clever. Ya got me.

Or about how much is a 6 pack of PBR or a cream puff at the state fair.

What do you call the device you get a drink of water from?

Muddled or mix?

Eh, I doubt most people in Madison or Milwaukee would know much about deer hunting to know if the candidate answered correctly or not. Maybe you could ask them how to pronounce Milwaukee? Packers would definitely work.

Was it the flagon with the dragon??? Seriously, I love that movie.

I strongly disagree. Lots of city folks go hunting. November is one of the most popular months for vacation requests and it has nothing to do with Thanksgiving.

Well … indirectly

I grew up in Madison and I knew no one who hunted.

Doesn’t mean they are entirely ignorant of the concept.

Just yesterday, Trump on global hot spots. Cant find the exact CNN clip, but something like “Israel and Sudan have been at war a long time, I don’t know if they were shooting, I don’t know about such things, but it’s been a long time”. And he wasn’t even asked, he volunteered his ignorance.

Anywhere in the south.

Sweet or Unsweet.

Hint: There’s only one correct answer.

The tricky one in the south-west of England us “Jam first or cream first?”

Not a phrase I’ve ever heard. Despite having done a bunch of business with the state government in Madison for several years.

Care to enlighten us poor benighted non-Wisconsonites err umm non- Wisconsonians aahh non-Wisconsinarians … hmmm … non-Cheeseheads; yeah that’s the ticket! Non-Cheeseheads?

I think it has to do with making mixed drinks, but I’m a non-drinker. Muddling, as I know it, is crushing the ingredients (mint leaves, fruit) rather than stirring.

In Rochester, you’d need to know what it means to order a plate.

He’s been doing that for about five years, now, ever since that escalator-ride.

Thanks, but the thread really isn’t about politicians, but things that identify one as a true local to the area.

In Cincinnati, ask them if they want a 3-way.

For Wisconsin, in particular, it almost undoubtedly refers to one’s preferred way of preparing a brandy old fashioned.
