I know some people think Outback is the worst place going but I do like the cut of meat they use for their “Outback Special”. I would like to get some that are similar for grilling/cooking at home. What cut of meat specifically is it? I know it is not Tenderloin or New York Strip. What would I tell a butcher if I wanted this cut?
Well, according to their menu, the Outback Special is a center cut sirloin.
ETA: I hate it when research makes you hungry. My lunch isn’t for another hour and a half!
This is exactly the reason I let someone else look that answer up.
Mmmm. Outback is gooood. I am shamelessly in love with that franchise. I always order my Outback Special au jus.
You might want to try top sirloin as well, or even a ribeye steak for grilling at home.
I think center-cut sirloin is top sirloin. And it’s probably my most cooked cut. The right balance of Tender, flavorful ,and cheap.
Three in my fridge right now from Memorial day sales :).
I could go for a giant porterhouse, but I have no grill so I’m SOL.
Thanks for the replies. I haven’t seen in the store center cut sirloin available for purchase. I will ask the next time I am in the store and see if I am missing it.
Just tell 'em to cut one for you: that’s what they’re there for.
