Disgruntled employee or just bored?
My vote is bored.
Perhaps just stoopit?
I believe that was a given.
Bonkers, yeah, totally nuts.
Bonkers, no ifs, ands, or but buts.
Driven insane by “It’s a Small World” on endless repeat?
Doggone that Judge Doom! Won’t he ever give up?
This happened before. When I was working there in the early 2000’s, someone had done the same thing: filled up a bottled water container with dry ice and water and sealed it. From the story I heard, he held it too long and it blew off a finger. Disney management still got him for making a bomb
Toons can’t be killed by dry ice bombs, doesn’t everyone know that!? What was this guy trying to pull?
Not really a bombing.
Teens have been making dry ice “bombs” for 50 years. It’s one of the reasons most places won’t sell dry ice to anyone under 18. Put a little dry ice in a plastic soda bottle. screw on the cap. It’ll make a bang in under 45 seconds. Yes its loud and can damage hearing. The biggest risk is having it go off in your hand. We used to set them off in a big field. Screw on the top and run about forty feet away.
Mythbusters has set several off. Usually in a pool. Thats the safest way.
A trashcan is a bad place. But its not a pipebomb or anything.
But of course in these post 9/11 days they’ll treat this kid like he’s a terrorist. Lets throw him in prison for 15 years.
btw, I was referring to a 16oz or 20oz plastic bottle. No way in heck would I ever use a 2 liter or 3 liter bottle. That would blow out someones eardrums.
I see the article said this guy used a water bottle. Probably 12 or 16 oz. Thats similar to what teachers use in science class experiments. Students love that demo of expanding gas.
I’m pretty sure the ice cream vendors at Disneyland have dry ice in their carts to keep the ice cream cool. He probably had all the makings on the bomb on the cart he was pushing around.
So not only did he participate in a terrorist action, he maintained a terrorist bomb-making facility?
Execute him!
If he rigged up a piano to fall from four stories up, then I would be worried.
I hope he wrote “Acme” on the side of the bottle.
Well, they do appear to be taking it [far too] seriously:
I hope they base the charge on how much care the kid used in setting up the prank.
Even my 13 year old self (and my friends) understood the importance of making sure no one was any closer than 20 to 30 ft when it went off. That’s for a small 12 oz or 16 oz bottle.
Setting one off with people standing really close is no prank. It’s still not a pipebomb but of course you’d have to seriously consider intent. A stupid mistake could require a few months or even a year in jail and civil penalties for anyone with hearing loss. But a million dollar bail for a loud bang from some dry ice gas? It sounds like they will over prosecute this guy.
I heard some Jackass news person say, “It is believed to be an isolated incident”.
I’d be surprised if there’s any place in Toontown where there is a trashcan that doesn’t have small children within 30 feet. (is that still where they do the main greet-and-picture with Mickey?) There certainly may be some over-prosecution there, sure, but blowing one up there is a lot different than doing it in some random trash can in an alley somewhere.
