OK, I just read in the paper that Outkast (who I have long considered one of my favorite RAP acts) became the first “pure Hip-Hop act” to receive the Album of the Year grammy.
Lauryn Hill won it in 1999. What gives? Do they mean to say Outkast was the first hip-hop GROUP to win it? Or are they saying that Lauryn Hill wasn’t “hip-hop”? I am confused.
Maybe they consider her “R&B”. Given that Fountains of Wayne has been nominated as “Best new act” this year, I’d say reality is at a premium when it comes to award shows.
