It was certainly implied, but he never said the word.

Was it clear in the book that it was Jamie outside? If so, what is the point of mentioning it if it isn’t cleared up for 6 books?
-
How did Claire “restore his soul” in the book?
-
I did skip a bit due to the graphic nature of what happened, but my wife and I understood a scene like this:
- Jamie tells Claire that he ended up enjoying the sex somewhat. Anything to escape the pain, I believe he told her.
What does he mean in the book?
It is not clear that it’s Jamie. You haven’t met him in person yet, and the ghost is, iirc, never mentioned again until book 7. It was an authorial mistake. In any case, it was a ghost and not corporeal Jamie. Remember that he walked so close to Frank they should have brushed shoulders, but didn’t.
Darkened the room, put a few rocks of opium on the brazier, stripped naked, lathered herself with oil of lavender, and fought him while he tried to kill her (because she smelled like Randall). They wrestle until they both collapse, exhausted, and when they wake up everything is okay again.
Again iirc (I tend to reread books 4-6, not 1-3) they don’t have this conversation until book 2. After a nightmare, Jamie’s trying to explain what it is that haunts him still, and it’s basically that Randall stole a part of him he had saved for only Claire. Or something. Maybe somebody more familiar with the early books will answer better.
IMO, the key component in the ransoming of Jamie’s soul is that Claire, impersonating Randall, allowed him to fight back.
Jamie had given his word that he wouldn’t resist, and he was going to keep that word, even while being tortured and raped. First because he had that unflappable sense of honor and second because it was his only means of keeping Claire safe from Randall after his death. Keeping their word was one trait that both Jack and Jamie shared, and in a perverse way, they trusted each other to keep it.
At wit’s end, she arrived at his death bed, as he’d lost the will to live and was wasting away with a fever. Claire put opium on a brazier, then channeled her late husband’s look and mannerisms in order to impersonate his ancestor. She roused Jamie with oil of lavender and began caressing him the way her husband used to caress her. Gradually, she began to hurt and humiliate him, rousing him out of his sleep. He accepted the abuse, pitifully, until she finally whispered, “Fight me!”
And that was the key. After being finally released from his agreement to submit, he did fight back. Violently. For hours. He went into a rampage against “Black Jack,” a fight that involved throwing her against the wall, punching her, and choking her nearly to death. She was only able to survive because he was so weak. Being allowed to fight back, while still retaining his honor, was the only way he was going to survive.
Finally, when the opium finally wore off, they collapsed in a heap. He began sweating, a sign that his fever had broken, and he woke up and felt Claire’s breast. He mistook her for his mother and he finally broke down and sobbed, something he hadn’t allowed himself to do.
I’m only on episode 6 of Season 1 (they just got married), so I’m not reading this thread until I’m caught up, but man, I’m hooked on this show!
Aside from the lame teenage girl sex fantasy drivel, which is minimal to be fair (and I really only found issue in the early episodes so this is nit picking), everything about this show is awesome. Political intrigue, time travel, fun, interesting characters, swords, foul mouthed Scots, and kilts!
TV can hardly get better than this.
Oh, keep going. And we’ll be here for you for the season finale.
Any idea of when the next season starts?
That link says April.
We’re guessing, based on when the season finale of Black Sails airs, it will be April 3.
I personally think it might be April 16. It will be the 270th anniversary of a defining battle.
We have a premier date! April 9!!!
Is it the whole season, or just the first half again? I hate split seasons.
Not clear yet. They only just cast a certain character a couple weeks ago, which doesn’t give much time to film and finish her parts … but the new trailer shows certain scenes that will probably be at the end of the season. So shrugs.
I believe it’s 13 episodes and will run straight through with no split in the middle.
Again, I’m not trying to be offensive or disrespectful but so many women seem to really love that line and I just don’t get the love.

I had to join this forum simply to answer this question. Sadly for many women, not all admittedly and certainly not Queen Victoria, sex for the first time can be uncomfortable if not darn right painful no matter how much you love your partner. However and I do speak from some experience here, if you know a guy is a virgin and you are sexually experience you can make it sensational for them. Believe me even after during first time they are hooked! Jamie’s reaction was spot on.
So when a guy utters that line you know he’ll remember you to his dying day! So yes that’s why we REALLY love to hear it.

I hadn’t heard of this show till I took out a months trial to an online film site. I watched both series one and two in 5 days and that included watching episode 7 FOUR times! To say I was hooked is an understatement. I thought Ep 7, The Wedding was the most incredible hour of TV I’ve ever actually scene. I was blown away by all the performances, even down to the wonderful priest. What they managed to produce was far more erotic than any porn could ever hope to be. I sat with a ridiculous grin on my face for the entire time! Simply wonderful.
