I have a husky. She likes to sleep outside and has several beds dug in the dirt. I generally don’t have a problem with this, but she has one bed that is just off a deck landing.
It’s in a spot that generally stays dry, and that’s the problem. The area is about 2 feet by three feet and she’s constantly shifting the dirt around to get the bed “just right”. She throws dirt up on the deck landing, comes in the house and shakes the dirt off and, if it gets wet, just lies in the mud. The dirt never gets packed down like it does in her other beds.
I’m thinking of taking the dirt out and replacing it with medium sized wood chips to a depth of about 8 inches. If she throws wood chips out, I figure it will be easier to sweep them back into the hole than dirt is. She won’t be as dirty and a hole in wood chips will look better than a hole in a bunch of dirt.
Suggestions or warnings? I realize I could fence the area off, but it’s HER bed and I really don’t care, other than I’m tired of having this area of “just dirt” in my backyard.
Thanks,
