Dude I know has psoriatic arthritis and he is on disability so he can’t afford expensive medicine. His psoriasis is killing him and he asked me to help him find an over the counter remedy or at least palliative. Can anyone recommend one?
I recently got Psoriasin for my boyfriend, and it helped. Although he just has a small patch on his arm. I am not sure if psoriatic arthritis can be treated with a topical treatment. Psoriasin’s active ingredient is coal tar, but I have seen other topicals with salicylic acid.
My wife had a problem with psoriasis for years, although clearly not as bad as your friend, until she started taking flaxseed oil every day. Now she has no problems at all.
I hope this helps your friend. Also do a search on the NYTimes science section regarding psoriasis. I seem to remember an article about new treatments sometime in the past few years.
The problem with those new treatments is expense.
Getting sunlight on the affected area can help - but , of course, don’t go to extremes. Sunburn isn’t good, either.
Can your friend look into free drug studies. My BF is in one now. He has psoriasis pretty bad. He answered an ad for a drug study. His last appointment is next week. The medications they have given him has helped. He also will get paid $150 at the end of the study.
The most he had to do other than go to the appointments was to give blood twice and document what time of day he put on the cream.
I think the first appointments were once a week and then every two weeks after that.
They told him that after this study he may get called back for others. Free meds is a win situtation for him as he has no health insurance.
There is of course the chance of getting a placebo.
