Overacting Anonymous

Okay, we’re getting into the movie awards season, finally, which means that good movies come out into the theatre. As a whole, this year has been rather subpar, so it’s time for a few good movies to come out.

But, I digress. This thread is to nominate the actors/actresses who go to far with their character: they over-act.

To begin, I’d like to nominate the following actors into the Lifetime Achievement Overacting Anonymous Hall of Fame:

Al Pacino
Geoffrey Rush
Jim Carrey

Anyone else?

Shatner. DEFINITELY Shatner.

Bob Denver
Alan Hale Jr.
Juliet Prouse
Madonna
Ed Aimes

Charles Grodin.

I really liked his first movie, with Cybil Shepard, “The Heartbreak Kid”. He was so good as intense and flawed, just couldn’t see his own faults, but seemed to enjoy himself immensely.

But since then he does only sour and maudlin.

From the “Turnabout Intruder” episode:

Then there was the Nightmare at 20,000 Feet Twilight Zone episode, where Shatner tries to replicate every facial gesture known to man in one thirty minute episode.

Now, IMHO, the guy DOES have some acting talent (or did). But boy, can he overact!

Shatner, without a doubt William Shatner.

The master of the completely unecessary…

pause.

Reading the thread about Billy Barty’s death reminded me that BB was a master of overstatement. Mickey Rooney was also mentioned in that thread as being BB’s buddy; I think I now know where BB got it from. Chalk Mickey up as an over-the-top actor, too.

That reminds me, maybe I want to add Mickey Rooney to my Celebrity Deathpool 2001 choice list . . .
