Overcoming habits

You might have brought this up before, but I’m just too damn lazy to search through the archives.

When it comes to food, my habit is to eat as much of it as I can. This is a holdover from basic training, when you ate as much as you could when you could get it (which, in turn, is almost a psychological greed effect from having so much in the civilian world before I went in, and then losing it all.)
At any rate, this is a habit like any other bad one–smoking, dipping, biting nails. What’s the best way to get over it?

Make a point of setting limits and sticking to them until you don’t want to eat as much as you can. Set reasonable limits, gradually decrease the amount you eat, and settle in for the long haul.

You say you’re “too damn lazy…”

Excellent! Perfect! Use your laziness.

Keep in mind - you don’t have to DO anything to break this habit, you have to NOT DO things. Don’t cook so much, or don’t buy so much. Skip a meal and laze around now and then.

I’m on my 38th day now of not smoking. I too am a lazy SOB, and I’ve found the concept really helpful.

I have a bad habit of doing that as well, over eating and the regreating it afterwards. I found it helpful if I take my time eating, that way I can get a guage of just how full Im getting. Oh, by the way… it takes 21 days to break a habit
