I had my right knee replaced last June. Felt a lot better (not entirely pain-free on steps) for several months, then started hurting again around April. By now, it sometimes hurts as much as it did pre-surgery. And now the left knee’s been hurting too. Going up and down steps can be challenging.
Saw the surgeon Wednesday, with new x-rays. He examined the right knee and the x-rays, and declared me wonderfully healed, and the left knee in no need of replacement. I said, “That’s nice, but what about the pain?” He replied, “Take Tylenol.”
So it seems that the only person who benefitted from the knee-replacement surgery was the surgeon, who was handsomely paid.
This is the same surgeon who told me my new knee would last about 15 years, “but not to worry, because something else will kill you first.”
He may or may not be a good surgeon, but he seems like a crappy doctor. According to this site,
Dismissing your issue with an X-ray and a breezy, “Take Tylenol” isn’t good practice. Pain is something that should be taken seriously, especially pain like yours that’ diminished and then worsened over time. Good luck, and let us know what you find out from the next doc.
