Yu definitely have my sympathy. I had all four of mine taken out many, many years ago, but it wasn’t fun. I did get to stay home from work for a few days. My mother came and stayed with me.
Hope you have a better time of it!
Were they out before you got them pulled or did they have to dig them out? Mine were all out, I had no pain. Didn’t even have to take asprin. But you do have my sympathy, it’s not a fun operation.
They do take them out at different periods. My first one was pulled after I got my braces taken off because it started growing sideways. The second and third were pulled separately because they kept getting decay spots. I still have my last one.
I told you guys that I’d do it, so here it is…The Link to the picture of my wisdom teeth. Don’t worry, it’s nothing graphic due to the crappy webcam I have. It’s just some proof for ya’s.
Can you believe I’m wasting my 100th post on this!?
They had to dig 2 of 'em out. Not surprisingly, those are the 2 that are bugging me right now. Other than that, it’s not bad at all
Okay, from your picture those things look enormous! Ewwwwww
I had mine out about a year ago, under a general. I actually have a pretty good tolerance for pain, but I couldn’t stand the idea of being awake when he took them out. My skin is crawling just thinking about it. It was very painful for about a week, and I was off solid food for 2 weeks! My face swelled a lot and some of it bruised. Also, they put the IV in badly, and I looked like I had been using heroin.
The worst was, when I complained about the pain to my family, who all have a full compliment of wisdom teeth, they were like “It’s not that bad!”. Grrrr…
OTOH, the drugs were a great help. Other than the fact that I couldn’t concentrate at all, and at about 2AM one night decided that maybe wisdom teeth were named that for a reason. I was worried for days that I would be stupid and forgetful forever. Also, the nursewarned me that they made some people suicidal. Guess who got that side effect? Fun times.
BTW, Alice_in_wonderland, that is the most disgusting thing I have ever heard. Blech.
And raise you four - yes, 8 teeth, all at once. 4 wisdom & 4 “regulars” (the first molars,I think). My mouth was too small for all my teeth & it was either yank em’ or break & stretch the jaw.
I don’t remember what pain pills I was on - but the anesthetic (YES- I wanted to be completely UNDER for that!) was sodium pentothal - wonder what state secrets I gave up that day.
This was the spring of 8th grade - so I got to end the year being called Chipmunk Cheeks… and I didn’t even get to keep the teeth.
Owie!
When I was eleven I had to get braces, and they put me under to remove four teeth (I forget which ones) to make more room, and they also dug out my bottom wisdom teeth because they were blocking my next set of molars. It was so much fun throwing up all that blood afterwards…ewwww.
I didn’t get the top ones out until I was eighteen, and one day a big piece broke off of one so that the sharp edge of the tooth started wearing a hole in my cheek. That was the only time I ever went to a dentist willingly, because I was in pain. It came out really easily; it took longer for him to numb me up than it did to remove the actual tooth. The other one I had out next week, it came out in about three minutes.
In terms of pain, the first couple of months I had my braces were much worse than from any of the teeth I’ve had removed. A few days of pain, they told me…bullshit! Owie owie owie!
