I don’t, but I’m curious what people might have. The closest I’ve come is Earthbound for the SNES–well, I would own it, but some time in the late '90s I lent it to a friend, and he moved to another state and I never got it back! It was just the cartridge though, I long ago lost the original box and player’s guide (or maybe I lent that to him as well). Looking at some recently closed eBay actions, if I had kept the whole set, I might be able to get $200 for it. Just the cartridge would be around $70. Oh well…I wonder if he still has my saved games on the cartridge?
So that’s pretty sad, please, someone produce something more impressive Prototypes? 1990 NWC gold cartridge? Stadium Events?
The two “biggies” for me would be Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Saturn and Suikoden 2 for the PSX. Both bought brand new from the store by me. Also both open, but still complete and in as good of shape as any opened 10+ year old game ever would be. No interest in ever selling them, either.
Even back then it was going for about $50. I wonder if you got lucky there, because I’ve been looking at prices for it on Amazon and eBay off and on for a couple of years now, and the only time it gets that cheap is if someone who doesn’t know what they have lists it as a used game.
I’m not sure how rare or valuable they are now, but I have Final Fantasy III, Chronotrigger, and Super Mario RPG for SNES, as well as Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy VII and VIII on PSX. I also have Ikaruga for Gamecube. I was kinda in to collecting those types of games for a while. Oh! And Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 for Dreamcast, but I have no idea if that carries any value.
For FF7 and FF8, do you have the greatest hits (green label) or original (black label) versions? If it’s the former it’s not worth much, if it’s the latter…it’s probably not worth all that much either, but you get cool points. I have a black label FF7 with the misprint on the back, which I think I remember reading means it’s from the second pressing. I thought maybe I had a rare copy…but nope, all the ones from that pressing were like that.
Wow, Ico has skyrocketed in value. I bought that game new for 15 bucks two or three years ago from the clearance bin at Wal-Mart.
I don’t have any super rare games, just average stuff like the Final Fantasies and such (though I might have a copy of Bonk 3 CD somewhere), but I like collecting rare consoles. I have the JVC X’Eye alongside the crown jewel of my collection, the Sega Wondermega RG-M1 (still the most gorgeous looking console ever conceived by man).
I’m jealous TBG’s Panzer Dragoon Saga, but I do have all three Shining Force 3 episodes (Including Premium Disc), and Radiant Silvergun for the Saturn. Not sure if I still have all the manuals or anything though. I play this stuff.
I bought Ico for about $20 (new) in late 2007, so you’re not the only one who got lucky. I’ve still got it (opened), even though I no longer own an actual PS2.
I remember when a friend and I were playing Shining Force 3, and we couldn’t stop laughing at the sound effect that plays when you open a treasure chest. It’s so over-the-top, especially when the item is just a medical herb or something.
