Packing Procrastination

I’m moving, therefore I’m packing.

Well, in theory I’m packing. But I’m kind of at a stall point because I’m packing the contents of the one piece of furniture I dread the most: The Armoire.

I dread it because it was full of all sorts of papers and mementos I needed to get rid of/sort through/organize. Which included finding photos of an ex-bf, divorce papers, cards from my dad’s funeral, etc.

And now I’m completely cranky.

What part of your house do you think you would have the hardest time packing? Why?

Going through all those papers was a bitch.

I lucked out and did that around Thanksgiving of my second to last move, when I was with three people who loved me dearly. So they were there for me when I went through the crap AND would hassle me to keep going so I had less to move.

For me, at the moment, the hardest part to pack (in my very recent move) was all the extra goddamn stuff I’d acquired in the six months I’d lived in my old place. It wasn’t even all that much, but it was still a pain in the ass.

I hate moving, and yet I keep doing it.

The hardest packing I had to do last time I moved was probably my computers. All the cables, peripherals, and whatnot for 4 desktop computers plus miscellaneous extras and spare parts was a lot of stuff to get together and get transported.

The hardest moving was my big comfy couch, but that’s only because it only fits through most doorways with considerable trouble.

I had to move after eighteen years in one place. I literally spent the last 26 hours before the move just packing.

My craft/junk/office type room. God. It’s full of everything under the sun. Electronics, craft stuff, obviously, books, jewelry, my dressing table with makeup, sentimental crap that I’ve never gotten around to scrapbooking… GAH. I’d pay money not to have to move, just to avoid packing that room.

I hate moving! hate hate hate!

Good luck! I hope your move is a smooth one.

Seven years ago, I moved our household across town pretty much by myself. We’d lived in the same house for 21 years, and my in-laws had lived in it for 23 years before that. A bunch of their stuff was still in the two sheds behind the house and in the attic, all of which I had to empty. Mr. Legend was working out of town five days a week, and I didn’t make him spend his weekends packing, so I did most of the work.

I started packing about two weeks before we were to take possession of the new house. Everything I packed at the beginning was neatly labeled, organized, and well-protected. Things quickly went downhill to the point that, two nights before we were to turn the old house over to its new owner, I was shoveling crap from the kids’ rooms willy-nilly into boxes. Almost all of that stuff is still sitting out in the garage, untouched. I guess they didn’t really need all those toys and games, eh?

Good luck!
