The thing is incredible. On most surfaces the paint just bubbles up and comes off in sheets. I’ve got a lot of bad paint to remove.

How does it do on non-flat surfaces (moldings, etc.)? Does it singe the wood at all? What’s your working procedure – do you heat first, then move the heater away and scrape, or do you try to follow along without roasting your hand?
well…it works great on moldings, I heat then move the heater away and scrape, and move it back…it can singe the wood if you leave on way to long, but before that the paint starts smoking.
I have found that it works better on some paint than others…and it’s useless on glass thats been painted but overall it’s damn usefull.
Forgive my ignorance, but how is this better than a paint-remover unit that you can purchase?
I used the “can o’ boogers” paint remover. I don’t remember what it’s called, but it looks like the busy end of a bad head cold. Not sure if you can use it on wood or not…I stripped the claw foot tub with it and it worked like a charm.
chemical strippers work, but they make a mess and introduce all kinds of nasty fumes. Just got through stirpping a door and just leaves bare wood and a pile of dry paint.
As for how is it better? Well, it’s not better than the comercial infrared strippers like the silent paint remover it’s a clone of it…just a lot cheaper to build one than buy one. It is better than a heat gun or something like that though.
I would assume it’s a lot cheaper to build something like this than to buy something comparable new?
I lease out some old residential properties, and I could probably use something like this in between tenants, as most of them end up trashing the places and the paint jobs.
Good find, thanks for sharing!

Yeah, it’s a whole lot cheaper.
