You know…if Bristol Palin wasn’t Sarah Palin’s little girl, she’d be in one of those inner city families or trailer park families where ALL the girls get pregant as teens.
Are you saying that since Bristol got pregnant she obviously didn’t get abstinence-only education?
Nobody’s “implying” anything.
However, the principal of Wasilla High School is on record in NEwsweek as saying that his school does NOT teach “abstinence only” and DOES have a comprehensive sex education program (albeit one that strongly encourages abstinence):

In other words, people who want to use Bristol Palin’s pregnancy as “proof” that abstinence education is a failure, and should be replaced with comprehensive birth control instruction, are on shaky ground.
Bristol Palin DIDN’T receive “abstinence only” education. She and her boyfriend DID learn about birth control, and sometimes used it. Like many kids, they were too lazy/horny/impatient to follow the instructions they received.
Kids can and will tune out Planned Parenthood spokesmen just as quickly as they tune out Moral Majority spokesmen. “Always use a condom” can go in one ear and out the other as quickly as “Save yourself for marriage.”
Am I being whooshed? I certainly hope so.
My older sister got pregnant at 17. She currently has a lovely eight year old son and a teaching degree. She works at an alternative middle school with troubled, disruptive teens. She does not live in a trailer park.
Which is all well and good for her. But I think it’s ridiculous to deny that most teenage single mothers end up closer to living a Jerry Springer existence than a Gilmore Girls one.
I don’t think that most pregnant teens end up living like the Gilmore Girls (however they lived - I never watched that show). Actually, I object to this entire thread, which states that if the Palin’s supported her daughter’s choices, that she would be thrilled if her fourteen year old daughter were impregnanted. And that it excuses someone from joking about knocking up a fourteen year old (though I actually think that Letterman was joking about Bristol). Sorry, Jinx, this thread is deeply stupid.
