Paly ... loitering?

I’m playing Lexulous with bup and just pissed him off by playing PALY onto a triple-word score. Okay, it might’ve been the double-letter score that the P was on, who knows.

Anyway, I knew the word because it’s in a poem. Or something. Probably 19th century. I’d thought it was “something something paly loitering,” maybe about a knight … or a maiden? Google ain’t cooperating – anyone know what’s niggling at my brain?
